Over-wintering of 7-spot ladybirds

The first appearance of Coccinella septempunctata in the spring is one of the events recorded by the UK Phenology Network. Many of the records have been very early - some of the observations being in early December.  This poses several questions, for instance, should sightings before the winter solstice (December 21st) be considered first or last records!
